I am running the 2012 London Marathon and raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. My grandson Zack was confirmed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just 4 years old, the week before Christmas! I knew nothing about diabetes and still remain largely ignorant about the condition so I intend to educate myself between now and my competing in the marathon. I run mostly to keep in shape. Sometimes not running for months then periods of real enthusiasm. By the time I get to run the Marathon I shall be 62, I last ran it in 1983 when I was 33. Did it in just under 4 hours then and hoping to match that 29 years later. ‘A man’s reach should exceed his grasp or what’s a heaven for?’
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the type 1 diabetes charity, improving lives until we find the cure.
We fund research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. We provide information for children, adults and parents living with the condition, at all stages from diagnosis and beyond. We give a voice to people with type 1 diabetes and campaign for increased focus on, and funding for, research to find the cure.
