Giulia and Marco's Autumn Wedding at Tudor Barn

We get asked all the time whether a November wedding is really a good idea. Our honest answer? Some of the loveliest weddings we ever host happen once the nights draw in, and Giulia and Marco's day is exactly why we say it. They married here on a crisp Friday in November and brought so much warmth into the barn with them that nobody gave the weather a second thought. 

Making the Season Work for You 

So many couples feel they have to fight against an autumn date. Giulia and Marco did the opposite and leaned right into it, and it paid off beautifully. Burnt orange, rust and deep burgundy everywhere; dried oranges and pinecones tucked into the details; even the flowers in Giulia's hair were dried autumn blooms. She wore the most exquisite pearl beaded Catherine Deane gown with long sleeves and a high neck, which is a bride who has thought about a November wedding properly! Marco matched the season too in deep olive green with a burgundy tie. If you are planning an autumn wedding with us, this is the masterclass. 

Tying the Knot, Quite Literally 

One of our favourite things about looking after a building with five hundred years of stories is watching couples add traditions of their own. Giulia and Marco included a handfasting in their ceremony; if you have not come across one before, the couple's hands are bound together with braided cords while they make their promises, and it is often said to be where the phrase tying the knot comes from. In front of our old fireplace, with the fairy lights twinkling away above everyone's heads, it felt like it had always belonged here. 

A Little November Rain 

Did it rain? A little, yes. Did anyone care? Not one bit. The confetti moment in the courtyard was pure joy, hats and all, and the wet cobbles honestly made everything glow. We always tell couples that the weather does not make the day; the people do, and this lot proved it. 

Why We Love Autumn in the Grounds 

Whenever a couple worries about photos at this time of year, we think of days like this one. Giulia and Marco wandered out into the parkland with their photographer and came back with golden leaves overhead, a carpet of orange underfoot and that shot on the bridge over the moat that we will never tire of. Thirteen acres of gardens do not stop being beautiful in November; they just change into something a bit more romantic. 

The Details That Made It Theirs 

Now, we have seen a lot of wedding cakes over the years, but a tower of cheese wheels topped with a tiny mouse bride and groom was a first even for us, and we were completely charmed. Better still were the wedding favours. Giulia and Marco made jars of jam themselves, boxed up with their initials and a note thanking their guests for coming all this way. When people have travelled a long way to celebrate with you, a homemade thank you says more than anything shop bought ever could. 

And Then the Dancing 

By the evening the barn was doing what it does best. The speeches had everyone in stitches, the guests brought the most wonderful splash of colour to the dance floor, and the first dance ended in a proper Hollywood dip. We will say no more; the photos tell you everything.
